Grinding, sometimes also called farming, can be a very good way to make some money, especially as you get higher in levels and have more options on where to go. To start making more money, kill humanoid enemies. They drop money as well as descent drops you can sell. When grinding for money, it is best not
to just grab every drop. Learn what sells and what doesn’t. this can be achieved at the auction house with just a little time researching what is posted and what is selling.
I suggest going for the Defias if you are in Elwynn forest, as these drop money, as well as drops needed for quests. Trolls are great if you are a dwarf. You will get items which can be sold and money.
Quests are another way to earn alot of money. Also, once you hit level 10, dont just rush forward to the next area. You can now travel around the world. Journey to some of the different starting areas and complete their quests. It shouldnt take much time since you are higher level than most of the mobs. If you are geared up for your level, you wont be spending much and selling everything you get. Doing this also earns reputation which is critical later in your game. You will have to do those quests eventually so it is a good idea to do them while you still get some experience for it.
Once you reach around level 35 you should be able to start soloing Deadmines. Deadmines is one of my favorite places for farming gold. just drop any white or greys and make sure you have the biggest bags available. I still wind up dropping some of the greens i get because I just do not have the room to cary them all. Check the auction house before you go to know what to drop and what to keep.

Learning to use the auction house can be one of the most rewarding investments of time in. By watching what is selling and for how much you can flip items. Flipping is a way of buying items on the auction house then reselling them for a higher price. Usually, I price items double what i payed for them. Also, make sure you take into account any auction house fees you paid, as these cut into your profits.
You can make alot money by choosing the right professions. It is advisable to use gathering professions for making money when starting out. Skinning and Mining are both easy to level and profitable. if you are mining check with the auctionhouse to see if smelted or raw metals sell better. This is sometimes different by server. Ususally i find the raw ores sell better, as they are used by blacksmiths who just dont want to spend the time farming for materials, and by jewelcrafters for prospecting. I have seen some servers where smelted ores sold better, though.
Herbalism can also be very profitable especially with the Inscriptioning introduced in WoTLK.
