Mass Effect 2 and Why It's a Worthy Sequel

Here’s a somewhat short review on mass effect 2. If you played the first mass effect than you definitely know that one of the greatest things about the first one was how you were propelled to complete the storyline in its entirety to learn more about the conflicts between the races in what happens with the reapers. The game starts very shortly after the previous one and Shepard is now a human hero. A very cool thing is that if you have your save file from the first game this will affect many things in the sequel depending on the decisions you previously took.

Mass effect 2 is more of the same but with many great changes such as you no longer have an inventory like in most normal RPG’s. Instead you now find specific weapons during your travels and a way to make them better is by upgrading them using minerals that you can find from exploring the galaxy. In fact I would start by saying that my biggest and probably only negative point about mass effect 2 is the galaxy exploring which gets very repetitive and a major time sink compared to the other 90% of the game that is just fast paced and an extremely fun. You’ll get very quickly tired of hearing “probe away” while scanning a planet for resources. Luckily on the computer you can adjust your mouse speed to make it go quicker, an advantage Xbox 360 users do not have.

The sequel is a lot more of a first-person shooter than the previous game. In fact I would say this one is more of a first-person shooter with a very well done and detailed storyline with great realistic party members. The guns can no longer overheat instead you have limited ammo that is usually not a problem to replenish. The new delay between shooting that was overheating previously is now simply reloading your gun like in most first-person shooters

You’ll have many party members and all of them have special abilities that can get unlocked when you do specific side quests for them. You also probably find many other upgrades for your help armor and weapons during the side quests. However the game is pretty easy so if you do not feel like doing them you definitely do not need the upgrades to complete the game.

Even though the game was designed for the Xbox 360 again the visuals look a lot better and much more fluid especially the PC version that has almost no loading times now compared to before. Yes, there are no more elevator loading times!

Finally, while the story is great it might leave you a bit dissatisfied because like they previously announced, mass effect will be a trilogy so not everything can be solved by the end of this second chapter.
