Is it worth me spending $150 to get it fixed? I do have bunch of games for it.
I already have a dedicated Sony Blu ray player to watch Blu Ray movies.
Answer:
Hi! How about fixing it yourself? I follow a repair guide and managed to fix it myself in 3 hours. If you are interested to find out how I did that, you may refer to this article, hope it helps you.

I would have to disagree to what the other contributor said. Though they are a Top Contributor.
The PS3s failure rate is minimal when compared to other systems. The 360 is well known for their RROD, that most owners experience multiple times. I have a 60GB PS3 (Bought when it first came out), that works 100% fine. My brothers PS3 80GB, also works fine.
The failure rate, reported by Sony, of a PS3 is less that 1%. Though I can not accurately give you a failure of the 360, go around asking anyone, they most likely faced RROD. As for a BAD gaming system family, their is none. All consoles have problems, Microsoft and Nintendo have had just as many bad things if not more. It seems more like an opinion rather than fact.
As for your question. I recommend you just pay the 300 for a new one, that you know is NEW. Unless you have a lot of games on your PSN account. I don't know if the transfer, that's something you should look into.
You paid I'm guessing $399 for it when you bought it so if you add $165 (Sony went up from what I understand) that would be well over $550 from a family (Playstation) of gaming consoles that have had a history of faulty lasers and this goes all the way back to the PS1 and PS2 as well and Sony has never acknowledged this because the Playstation has been their cash cow !
Every Playstation I've owned has suffered from faulty lasers, overheating, skipping, freezing and the now infamous DRE or Disc Read Error and I've owned them all including a 60GB PS3 that so far had held up for me !
That's a decision that you'll have to make as whether or not you want to spend $165 on a gaming console that has a bad history !
I wouldn't spend $165 ! I can understand if these consoles were past their prime and breaking down but the PS3 is just a little over 3 years old and their failure rate is horrible !
I had the same model and the same thing happen, When you took it apart what did you try to "fix"?
You have to get a new laser (i got the whole assembly for about $50 on E-bay) and open up the Blu-ray drive itself and replace it. Mines be working perfectly since then.
