Ps3 Came Down with Ylod; if I Open It, Will Sony Take It Back and Fix It?
So my 60G ps3 came down with the YLOD the other day. i have been watching videos on how to fix it. But my question is…if i open it up and try to fix it; and fail. Will Sony take it back and fix it for me? Even if i pay them? or will they shut me down? I really just want to get it up and running so i can get my data off of it. I called Sony, but they said; they would have to strip my ps3 in order to fix it. I really want a chance to save my data. I at least want to give it a shot.
Also, has anyone fixed their ps3 themselves? How did it turn out for you???
Suggestion:
If I recall correctly, opening it disables the warranty on it. Which means they might also not want to fix it for you if you do. Just send it right in, or buy a new system.
Hope that helps.

i tried fixing it, didnt work out to well. in the end i just decided to buy a new slim ps3 and forgot about all my saves and started over. you might be alittle smarter then me with electronics and be able to fix it. my first thing i would recommend is to send it to sony be safe and have the pros do it, dont make the mistake i did and ruin my ps3 for good.
as long as you dont brick it then yes they will.
Your best option is to just send it directly to them and pay the $150, if you try it yourself, you could make it worse.
To keep your data that can be saved (not all data can be backed up), get an external hard drive and format it as FAT32 using Fat32Formatter:

Then plug it in to the PS3 and go through and copy over everything you want that can be saved. Not all data can be backed up due to copy-protection.
Any DLC you can re-download and you can re-sync your trophies from your PSN account as well.
No, just buy a new ps3 or 360. Or just wait till next january when ps4 and xbox 720 comes out!
