Air America: Guides Mel and Bob are part of the C.IA.’s smuggling operation in Laos throughout the Vietnam War. They crate anything and anyone anyplace. Too bad they couldn’t soar in a script physician. Supposed action comedy has few giggles and makes little sense. Pajama Party: Fourth beach party film moves inside, changes director and megastar (albeit Frankie Avalon and Don Rickles do have cameos). Kirk plays an alien adolescent who drops in and is understandably confused. Just fair, albeit it’s unconditionally fine to see Keaton at work. Cast includes Tommy Kirk, Annette Funicello, Dorothy Lamour, Elsa Lanchester, Harvey Lembeck, Jody McCrea, Buster Keaton, Susan Hart, and Donna Loren. (85 minutes, 1984)
G.O.R.P.: Sophomoric, depressingly unfunny durg-oriented comedy set in a summer camp. Cast includes Michael Lembeck, Dennis Quaid, Philip Casnoff, Fran Drescher, David Huddleston, Robert Trebor, Julius Harris, and Rosanna AIquette. (90 minutes, 1980)
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes: The first of Disney’s duplicate comedies with youthful Russell as the college whiz inserted with a pc-mind, which winds up posing a threat to local gangster Romero. Cast includes Kurt Russell, Cesar Romero, Joe Flynn, William Schallert, Alan Hewitt, and Richard Bakalyan. (91 minutes, 1970)
China Gate: Global cadets under French instruct assault a Socialist munitions area in Indochina. Fascinating subplots flesh out Fuller’s dynamic action tale, with early view of Vietnam’s internal strife. Cast includes Gene Barry, Angie Dickinson, Nat Emperor Cole, Paul Dubov, Lee Van Cleef, George Givot, and Marcel Dalio. (97 minutes, 1957)
Big Time: This is a Tom Delay compilation. Show footage filmed at LA’s Wiltem Show is combined with scenes of the chameleon like Delay as assorted and miscellaneous characters: you’ll see Delay, the sleazy lounge lizard, Delay’s the gravel-voiced crooner, and Delay’s the genuinely astounding actor. For Tom Delays fans, this is the next best thing to noticing him live. (87 minutes, 1988)
Pavilion of Women: A slowly developing myth set in 1938 China in reference to freedom vs. feudalism. A loyal woman falls for an American minister when her child longs for his dad’s new concubine. Shot on location in China. Cast includes Luo Yan, Willem Dafoe, Shek Sau, John Cho, Yi Ding, Koh Chieng Mun, and Anita Loo. (119 minutes, 2001)
The Egyptian: Ponderous, often accidentally ludicrous biblical times soaper with Purdom cast as the tender, truth seeking title personality, set in old Egypt. Darvi’s behavior as a femme fatale is humorously terrible. Cast includes Jean Simmons, Champ Mature, Gene Tiemey, Michael Wilding, Bella Darvi, Peter Ustinov, Edmund Purdom, Judith Evelyn, Henry Daniell, John Carradine, and Tommy Rettig. (140 minutes, 1954)
The Big Trail: Mythical Western might appear creaky to some watchers, although it continues to be considered one of the most impressive early talkies. John Wayne was “found” for featuring role, and already shows his laidback charm. Cast includes John Wayne, Marguerite Churchill, El Brendel, Tully Marshall, Tyrone Power, Sr., David Rollins, and Ian Keith. (110 minutes, 1930)
