When you are tired of groups and when you want to try something a little different, why not think about rolling up a Warlock? On the Alliance side, Humans and Gnomes can play Warlocks, and while these wielders of dark magic are often known to be great damage dealers, it is also worth looking into the fact that they are perfect for soloing as well. When you are interested in playing a character that can take on just about anything solo, a Warlock is one of your best bets. Check out these tips for playing a solo warlock, and you will find that you are going to start progressing very quickly!
Deploying Your Pet
When you first get started with your Warlock, you’ll find that you get to work your imp. An imp can be handy because he does not need to be summoned with a Soul Shard, but while soloing, you will likely be using your voidwalker. The voidwalker is perfect for those soloing because it essentially tanks for you. It has the best armor rating of all of the pets and it generates threat well. Use it to soak up damage while you throw out damage over time spells.
Don’t Speed!
Get used to the fact that soloing is never as fast as playing in a group. A soloing Warlock will tend to put a lot of damage into the Affliction tree and with your Talent points spent here, you will find that you can do a lot of damage but that it will take a while. Immolate is a great spell for high damage, but it takes a full fifteen seconds before all the damage is done. You need to stay alive long enough to let it work, so be patient. Remember that you are wearing cloth armor and that you should not take on more than one mob at a time if at all possible.
Consider Alchemy
One of the drawbacks of being a Warlock is that you are not going to have any innate ability to heal. Most people believe that that takes them out of the solo game, but nothing could be further from the truth. Alchemy can help you level the playing field a fair amount. Not only are you going to be able to learn to make healing potions and mana potions, you will also find that the bonus of Lifeblood, which you pick up through the associated profession Herbalism, can give you a heal over time that is fairly effective in a pinch.
