If you’re considering leveling a Shaman, the first thing you need to do is learn what they’re all about. In a funny WoW commercial, William Shatner gave a good overview of them. The Shaman is a “conduit for the ancient forces of nature.
Basically you make use of various earth based spells to attack the enemy. When youre leveling a Shaman, you can go down the elemental tree, enhancement tree or the restoration tree. If you go down elemental, you will mostly be assaulting enemies from a distance, if you go enhancement, you will be engaging in melee and if you go restoration, well, you will be quite the healer.
Now one of the key abilities of the Shaman is the ability to throw down totems which can grant you buffs or dish out damage or enemy impairing effects. The function of the totem is dictated by which of the elements are being used, earth, wind, fire or air.
Other bonuses to using the Shaman are that they can wear mail armor and they can be very versatile. For instance, you can play a decide to player your Shaman as a melee, ranged or healer.
There are weaknesses to the Shaman though as there are with every class. One of the weaknesses is the fact that totems can be easily destroyed. Another is that Shamans can’t use any ranged weapons and finally, the Shaman tends to be well rounded but far from an expert in any one thing.
I think Shamans though are a lot of fun to play as. Now they may have been nerfed in many of the recent patches and they may be a bit weak in player vs player, however they are a lot of fun to play as and worth taking the time to level.
Now that you are well aware of what the Shaman is all about, you may want some more info to help with leveling a Shaman. If this is the case, it’s a good idea to find a more detailed guide to take you to level 80.
