House of the Dead: This is a low-grade terror film, based on the video game, which charts the predictable destinies of some addle brained youngsters drawn to an island inhabited by zombies. The Fourth Procedure: Pretty excellent thriller adjusted by Frederick Forsyth from his most popular novel. Caine plays a British agent who’s designated to foil a Russian plot that could obliterate relationships between the U.S. and England by setting off an atomic bomb near an American air base in the U.K. Brosnan does well as a Russian representative. Cast includes Michael Caine, Pierce Bronson, Joanna Cassidy, Ned Beatty, Betsy Brantley, Peter Cartwright, David Conville, Matt Frewer, Ray McAnally, and Ian Richardson. (119 minutes, 1987)
The Front: Bull’s eye comedy with heavy topic. The Little Theatre of Jean Renoir: Quartet of little stories in reference to human respectability and beneficence of country living (instead of subsisting in a dehumanized city forest). Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: A typical venture spectacle has Ford in fine form and Connery amalgamating panache as Indy’s archaeologist dad, whose bizarre disappearance (when looking for the Holy Grail) sets the tale in motion.
