The 3-red light error means the three lights around the power button that turn from green to red when an error happens. They are signal that there is a problem with the console and they are now known as the Red Rings of Death!
There are a number of reasons for seeing the red light error but the most common is the console overheating. This occurs when the heat sinks are not able to properly cool the hot air created near the processor, in turn causing the processor to fail. Overheating can be caused by several factors. Overheating can also cause the GUI to fail, which is when you will see the 3-red light error. When you see the three blinking red lights in the power ring you may also get an error message on your screen at the same time. The error message might be E74 or something else.
There are a number of things you can do to prevent the red light error from happening. One such measure is make sure there is enough cool air around the motherboard, to stop it overheating. If you can keep it at a constant temperature you should not get the error.
If you are unfortunate enough to experience the 3-red light error there are several ways you can repair it. You can send your console off to Microsoft if you want to wait weeks for it to be returned to you. Or you can repair it yourself and save a lot of time and expense.
