The Sims 2, Playstation 2…help?

i got this game A WHILE ago and i still really like it. but since i have gotten it, i still can only choose to build a house in four locations (when i choose to start a new game). but on the back of the game (box) it says that you can "build your world in 16 unique locations" HOW! and also, when you are creating your character, there are a lot of clothing that is "locked" how do you unlock it?

answering either/both of these questions would be a huge help!

you have to unlock the other locations and move there.
and the clothes you unlock by getting further in career mode
