Ps3 Game Data Utility Help?

my hard drive is getting over loaded with data (I now only have 6gb out of 55gb). If i delete items in the "Game Data Utility" folder, will i loose my save game data for the game (like progress in story)? Will it just re-install it next time i put the disk in? (ex. when MGS4 is installed it takes up 6 gb of data while my save game profile only takes up a few megabites. If i delete the installed data, can i just reinstall it next time i choose to play the game without loosing my save game?)

also, any other ideas for clearing up space on my hard drive?

Suggestion:

Your save games are stored in the other section (save data something or other). So, it's pretty much as you guessed, deleting the Game data would only mean you needed to re-install it the next time you wanted to play rather than losing any progress.
But it would mean you'd also have to re-download any patches for the said game.

If it's becoming a major ball-ache, you might want to look into buying a new hard-drive. You can get a decent size one for a reasonable price and it's not overly difficult to swap out.
