Answer:
you've been told WRONG.
"If a PLAYSTATION 3 is not backward compatible, you will not be able to add this function through any hardware (i.e., changing the hard disk drive) or software (i.e., updates, homebrew) upgrades or modifications. "
that came DIRECTLY from Sony's own website: http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=232&p_sid=1P9bCDwj
not possible. end of discussion.

buy a ps2 and strap it to the ps3 , that's the only way .
you'd need to completely tear apart the ps3 slim and replace everything with parts from a backwards compatible model , basically buy a backwards compatible ps3 and put it in a slim case if it would fit , then you could fool people into believing your ps3 slim plays ps2 games ….. cheaper to buy a ps2
80gb ps3's or bigger wont play ps2 games only the old ones that first came out do sorry ):
You can't "mod" a PS3 to play PS2 games. End of story.
