How Do I Make My Ps3 Play Ps2 Games?

I BOUGHT A HARDRIVE THAT WAS FROM A 60GB PS3 I HAVE A 80GB PS3 AND I TRY TO PUT IT IN AND IT SAYS UPDATE TO 3.10 OR LATER WATS THAT MEAN I JUST WANNA PLAY PS2 GAMES.

Answer:

The models that have PS2 emulation, and would therefore be able to play your PS2 games are:

CECHAxx – 60GB model – Hardware Emulation; plays about 98-99% of PS2 games

CECHBxx – 20GB model – Hardware Emulation; plays about 98-99% of PS2 games

CECHCxx – 60GB model – Software Emulation; plays about 85-87% of PS2 games

CECHExx – 80GB model – Software Emulation; plays about 85-87% of PS2 games

Any other model number does not include PS2 emulation, and cannot be made to emulate a PlayStation 2, including the new Slim versions, but all models can play PS1 games.

For the Firmware update, you will have to do the USB System Update trick.

On a separate computer, download the system update to a USB Drive setup to read <Drive Letter>:PS3UPDATE

Now, reseat the hard drive and place the USB drive in one of the USB slots on your PS3. Plug your controller, attached to the USB cord to another slot in your PS3.

Start the system.

Press START and SELECT. If you placed the Update file correctly, you will get a prompt to format the drive.

Remember, the update file Must be in the UPDATE folder, which is a subfolder of PS3, which is on the Root of the USB Drive.

After that, your drive should format and be ready to go

I hope this helped answer your question

It means you need the latest firmware update in order to format the hard drive. You'll have to download the latest firmware update from a PC onto USB and install it before you can install the hard drive.

PS2 playback is not on the hard drive. You need the actual PS2 hardware soldered onto the PS3's motherboard. You also have to program the PS3's Cell Processor CPU so the console has the ability to read and process the PS2 data.

To make it simple: YOU CAN'T MAKE A PS3 PLAY PS2 GAMES END OF STORY.

The original PS3s (Model CECHA (60GB HDD) and CECHB (20GB HDD) came with the PS2 CPU "EE" and GPU "GS". Later Models (CECHC (60GB European), CECHE (80GB) dropped the PS2 CPU replacing it with Software emulation.

No subsequent model includes the CPU so there is no backwards compatibility.

Because all 60GB models had backwards compatibility (though different levels between US and European units) people often refer to the PS2 compatible machines by their original HDD capacity, but the drive has absolutely no influence at all.

The 60GB drive you have was probably formatted with 3.10 so it is asking you to upgrade your firmware. As soon as you do, it will then tell you the drive is corrupted (because it wasnt formatted by your PS3, it thinks it is corrupted), and you need to re-install it, resulting in a clean 60GB drive (i.e. less drive space than you had with your 80GB).

The harddrive has nothing to do with weather the system plays ps2 or not. Its the firmware that the system has. So your going to have to buy an actual 60gb ps3 or the old 80gb with BC. For now you can't if your really in the need to play ps2 games than just buy a ps2 they are extremely cheap now.
