Suggestion:
It's not true; Sony realized they were still making money off of the PS2 so they removed backwards compatibility with the PS3 (Slim included).
And no its not because you didn't spend enough money its because the only PS3s capable of playing the old PS2 games are the original 1st gen models.

most of the ps3 don't play ps2 games. it was too expensive for ps to do. i don't think there is anything you can do to change the fact that your pss3 doesn't.
There are no mod-chips, accessories or any software that will allow a PlayStation 3 Slim or any other PlayStation 3 console that doesn't support playing PlayStation 2 games out of the factory to play PlayStation 2 games.
The only way to play PlayStation 2 games on a PlayStation 3 is to have bought a model that was capable of doing so right out of the factory (the 20GB, 60GB or 80GB MotorStorm/Metal Gear Solid bundles), otherwise you'll have to stick to playing them on an actual PlayStation 2.

u dont. i thot i could but then i put a ps2 game in there and it didnt work. yet it gives u the option for a ps1 and ps2 memory card.
There is absolutely no way to play PS2 games on a PS3 slim, at least for now. As you can understand there's no such accessorie.
One word Impossible and here's why.
When the ps3 first came out it had the cpu that the ps2 used (Emotion Engine), which meant you could play ps1/2 games. But sony removed it later claimed to "Cut manufacturing cost" so the ps3 price drooped.
Now some people don't mind but I have over 30 LEGALLY ps2 game that I cant play on my ps3. And sony says if you want to play ps2 then "buy a ps2".
Here's something funny on the fat ps3 you could install linux and on linux you could get a emulator and play ps2 games and even xbox, hows that for irony. But they later removed that feature claiming "security reasons".
But listen they don't want you to play your ps2 games because they lose so much more, and they will start selling whats called ps2 software. So that you could buy a game from PSN that you already have paid for. I know bastards.
Many ps3 fan boys saying that the ps3 cant read ps2 disc, DAAHHH if a ps3 can read a dvd then what do you think a ps2 disc is, idiots.
You know its pisses me of but there isn't much you could do about it, wish I was a programmer and spreading this machines wings so it could fly.
PS: Yes the ps3 can play ps2. Its 40 times smarter/powerful so my pc have 2 cpu cores the ps3 have total of 8 cores. With the right software anything is possible.
unfortunately, because you paid $300 for your ps3, you can't use that feature. My ps3, which cost $500, can play old games and has more usb ports and memory card ports.
