I Have the Slim Ps3, is There Any Way to Play Ps2 Games on It?

I mean are there converters or somthing to downlaod or a cable to buy that will alow me to play ps2 games on a PS3. i have a PS2 as well, but I play alot of online and the PS3 is nice because you can MSG your friends no matter what game your playing. I don't want to spend money getting the digital versions of my PS2/PS games.

Answer:

well the slims do not have the hardware to support ps2 or most ps1 disks because they were to "expensive" to make. but here is my suggestion (requires cpu dvd burner and appropriate software.)
download the iso to your cpu it is LEGAL ONLY IF YOU ALREADY OWN THE GAME!!! or if you can rip the disk using the iso ripper. then use the ps to ps3 converter to convert your ps2 or ps1 iso to an appropriate ps3 iso. then burn your ps3 iso to a disk using a iso burner. it will turn all of the files into an cd image once that is complete slide your disk into your ps3 and it will read ps3 format software on the xmb but it will be a ps2 or ps1 game. this is a long ugly process which took me two days to figure out! but it is possible. and i gave u most of the steps other then software names mainly because the software shouldnt matter. plz do not download anything illegal or copywrite anything you shouldnt. it is long but i did it just to see if i could because once you play ps3 games ps1 and ps2 games are terrible

no. there is nothing to download, nothing to install. it's simply not possible. and no cable is going to allow it either. (a cable? seriously?)

the download that others are referring to is for the PS3s that already are backwards compatible. downloading it to a non-backwards compatible PS3 will do NOTHING but take up space on your hard drive! it will NOT make your PS3 play PS2 games!!!

"If a PLAYSTATION 3 is not backward compatible, you will not be able to add this function through any hardware (i.e., changing the hard disk drive) or software (i.e., updates, homebrew) upgrades or modifications. "
that came DIRECTLY from Sony's own website: http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=232&p_sid=1P9bCDwj

Nope. Nothing you can do.

By the way, I don't think you're logged into the PSN when you're playing PS1 or PS2 software. Also, you can't access the XMB while you're playing a PS1 game; I don't see why playing a PS2 would be any different. My point is, you can't message people during PS1 gameplay and this is most likely true for PS2 games.
