If I Download the Ps2 System Data on My Ps3 to Make It Backwards Compatable Can I Still Play Ps3 Games?

You cannot download the PS2 system data to make a PS3 backwards compatible since the PS2 compatibility is hardware-based. So you would need to have a PS2 compatible system — specifically 20, 60, or 80 GB with 4 USB ports; no other system is PS2 compatible.

However, even if you did download the PS2 system data, it does not affect the PS3 gameplay in any way, so of course you'd be able to still play PS3 games. It would be stupid if it didn't.

Also, Sony has been releasing PS2 Classics in the PSN Store to download and play on any PS3.

Suggestion:

The PS2 system data doesn't add backwards compatibility. It adds HDD support so that you can use your PS3's HDD for PS2 games that used the old HDD add-on for the PS2. Unless your PS3 is already a backwards compatible 20, 60, or 80GB model then this update does nothing but waste space.

I think sony has removed PS2 system data from PS Store.
