Why Cant My Ps3 Play Ps2 Games?

i bought the ps3 back when it first came out and it played ps2 games but that system broke so i bought a newer system, which is like 2 years newer then the older one, and it doesnt play ps2 games. why is this?

Suggestion:

They removed the hardware for backward compatibility in order to reduce the manufacturing costs. At the same time they did this, they dropped the sales price of the PS3 by $100, so with that savings, you can go buy yourself a PS2 as well.

only fat PS3s with 4 USB ports can play PS2 games

Only three models can play PS2 games, the 20GB, 60GB, and Limited Edition 80GB MotorStorm and MGS4 Bundle PS3s, all which have 4 USB ports (all the rest of the PS3s have 2 USB ports, and can NOT play PS2 games).

If your PS3 has 2 USB ports, then you can not play PS2 games, you will need a PS2 to do so. All PS3s play limited PS1 games.

Only certain ps3s can read ps2 games. Usually the more expensive ones

only fat ps3's can play ps2 games. they stopped that doing that because of the price. thats why the price dropped occured

Only the "fat" ps3's can play ps2 games the slims can only play PS1 games

I think your new PS3 system doesn't have backwards combatibility
